Mission Libre

Posted on 2025-05-13 by Paul Sutton

Mission Libre

Mission:Libre is a new, independent project for teens all over the world who love free software. We aim to help teens learn about software freedom and develop the skills they’ll need as they become tomorrow’s contributors and activists. Mission:Libre will help spread the word about free software.

Mission Libre

Early days with this yet, but the idea is ambitious and innovative. Hopefully this will be successful.

There are lots of projects, resources and tutorials out there and any inititive to help bring people together under a common cause is always welcome.

Lets see what happens and if there will hhe a few people from the South west getting involved with this.

Open Street Map

OpenStreetMap is a map of the world, created by people like you and free to use under an open license.

Open Street Map is a great project that anyone can get involved with, using open data so mapping data can be used freely in accordance with the terms on the website.

Embedded maps are also interactive

Peer Tube

Posted on 2019-09-28 by Paul Sutton

Peer Tube

A decentralized video hosting network, based on free/libre software

Peer tube is another service on the Fediverse. That allows you to upload video and share this with other. The difference is there are no adverts and fewer limitations on what you can upload. You still need to stay within the law though. Having used this I found it pretty straight forward and it transcoded my video in a few hours. As stated above this is all based on Free / Libre software.

PodCast Search

Posted on 2019-09-26 by Paul Sutton

PodCast Search

While on the Fediverse you come across lots of useful links to other resources. One that I found recently was https://podsearch.com/

As the name suggests this allows you to search for a pod cast in a good range of topics.

Libre Lounge is another podcast that has covered different aspects of the Fediverse, this includes some of the more technical aspects including a multipart discussion on Activity Pub. Activity pub is one of the protocols that allows posts to be federated across the network.

You can find the Devon and Cornwall GNU / Linux user group on the fediverse at https://social.isurf.ca/profile/dcglug

Or search using dcglug@social.isurf.ca

South Devon Computing at School

Work to restart the South Devon Computing at School Community seems to be going well, we could do with some more teachers and other staff to get in touch and say how you would like to be supported.
