Debian Firmware

Posted on 2021-01-29 by Paul Sutton

As Debian is a fully free Operating System. This means that if your hardware has any non free firmware, the drivers may not be available during the install. There are several ways round this.

  1. Use the non-free ISO
  2. Create a media that has the drivers available so that the installer can scan and install the appropriate firmware drivers during install. The instructions for this are available here.

Another option is to use hardware that does not contain proprietary firmware. Some links below may be helpful.

  • USB Wifi Dongle USB 2.0 Wireless 802.11n USB Wifi Adapter
  • FSF Certified Wifi hardware (article)
  • List of computer hardware that works with free software
    • WiFi cards

PodCast Search

Posted on 2019-09-26 by Paul Sutton

PodCast Search

While on the Fediverse you come across lots of useful links to other resources.  One that I found recently was https://podsearch.com/

As the name suggests this allows you to search for a pod cast in a good range of topics.

Libre Lounge is another podcast that has covered different aspects of the Fediverse, this includes some of the more technical aspects including a multipart discussion on Activity Pub.   Activity pub is one of the protocols that allows posts to be federated across the network.

You can find the Devon and Cornwall GNU / Linux user group on the fediverse at https://social.isurf.ca/profile/dcglug

Or search using dcglug@social.isurf.ca

Fedora : How to help

Fedora : How to help

Like any project,  help is always welcome, there is a similar too to that I posted with relation to Libreoffice, but for anyone looking to help with Fedora.

Fedora : How to help

Fedora creates an innovative, free, and open source platform for hardware, clouds, and containers that enables software developers and community members to build tailored solutions for their users.

South Devon Computing at School

Work to restart the South Devon Computing at School Community seems to be going well, we could do with some more teachers and other staff to get in touch and say how you would like to be supported.

Libreoffice : How to help

LibreOffice : How to help

LibreOffice is a well featured free and open source office suite.  As with any project contributors are welcome and encouraged to get involved. There are lots of different jobs to do, so not everything is about coding.   Please see the following link for more information, and see how you may be able to help.
