Re: [LUG] website - summary

Hi. Sorry if this seems a long post.

Ok to try and summarise some feelings

1. People seem to agree we need to spruce up the website, add a
different theme perhaps and add fresh content

2, People are willing to do this either write, post or whatever to make
the site more relevant, they may need access to the site.

3. The idea of a mailing list is a good idea BUT

3a there are other means of communication,

A forum would be nice, the forum for the raspberry pi site is very
popular so shows this method works

Messages to the forum can be copied / pasted to the list to get
answers, if need be

a forum topic can be watched, so you only follow what you are
interested in,

4. Social media

To reach out to other newer, and perhaps younger members we need to
integrate social media, so

a link to twitter would be good, people can then get meeting info via
twitter (grant has kindly offered to help us with this)

Links to other media such as google+ may be useful (the exeter lug has a
google+ page so we could have a join the exeter lug group on google+

Other lugs have all sorts of features

rss feeds for example for manchester Lug http://www.manlug.org/ they
include a debian security feed, which one or two for the lug would be
useful perhaps,

New lug site needs to also address new technology such as the raspberry
Pi, it puts users in touch and becomes a place where pi users can get
help or swap ideas. projects and do show and tells etc,

Lets reach out to these groups, same goes for users of other hardware,
we can bring people together.
