Thanks, but I'm sure we both know where it is, but that is the usability issue, we have to "know". If they had printed it on the key somewhere we might have guessed the extension key. Indeed we probably both knew on US keyboards it is shift 3, and could discover it with that "know-how", but there is no reason regular UK users should know where the hash is on US keyboards, as that is probably the "Â" key on every keyboard they've ever had to use. The amount of stuff I have to Google to discover how to make a Mac do even close to what I want is scary. I'm even finding bugs in core features like "Finder", and it is not as if I'm a power user exploring weird features (it is mostly a glorified way of running SSH and VirtualBox along with regular business apps) - I was just trying to sort by date. Other features are just painful on Mac OS X, like cut and paste, or cut and "paste matching style or I'll mess up your formatting" as it would be more accurately described. I'm not a usability fanatic. I do think users need to learn, and not everything has to be discoverable, but things like where common symbols are probably should be obvious. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
