KWallet is a password store that saves your email passwords, it is a

I have KMail showing the same as Thunderbird, list or email addresses on
left, emails for specific email inbox/out-box on right ordered by date.
Note it tries to show emails by subject name groupings ('Conversations')
I think by default as that was popular at one time (as in GMail set ups).
Change this in properties.
KWallet is part of set of K sub-programs necessary for KMail to run
properly.
Thanks for the information. I used to use Kubuntu as my desktop manager, a while ago now. Then it started bringing in ideas like kwallet, so I moved on. I now understand why, when I was testing the kmail I had set up, it asked for the password each time. I thought that was odd, but I see it was because I had ignored its pleas for kwallet.
