I no longer use Claws, just TBird, so I am considering having a second

open the other one.

For reasons of ease of use, avoiding webmail, (which I use for very
different purposes).
I use Thunderbird for all 'normal mail' (6 company email addresses and
my personal ones)
I use KMail for a specific subset of a web site emails, where I maintain
website, thus this is separate to my normal mail systems.

I thought that KMail was best on kde, so kubuntu users only.

I have Evolution on one spare Linux box but only use it for a single
email address.
I found Evolution slightly less convenient than Thunderbird.
Advantage of T'Bird, I use the same profile on multiple machines. So
easy to swap to new machine [WinOS or new distro on Linux machines].

I back up the T'Bird profile to a USB key (monthly) and hold that
separate from my machines so I can reinstall on any machine.

Well, I installed Evolution to try it out on my desktop where my Linux Lite version is due to be upgraded soon anyway. So how did it go?

It found and downloaded all my emails fine (I use IMAP so that was easy). Then I played around a bit. One of the important features for me with my emails is the filtering system. I have several accounts and within each one there are several folders, extra to the inbox, to store particular emails. For example my dclug emails, like this one, are automatically filtered over to a separate folder. I find this very useful.

I tried to set up some filters on Evolution and ran into a problem. They would not stay put. When I closed the program and then re-opened it, as a test, the filters had disappeared. I checked on the internet and, sure enough, others are also having similar problems.

I expect there are workarounds or some way to sort this. I just can't be bothered. If this type of problem can't be sorted out by the authors, then I will just move on. So goodbye Evolution.

For the moment I will stick with TBird,

Neil
