Re: [LUG] Satnavs

Fair enough. I've not tried the Etrex - they seemed a little basic for my tastes. The 650 does have a great touchscreen (pinch and zoom, same as any decent phone or tablet), but, well, mine isn't so reliable.

Price is a moot point because there's nothing similar that I've found that does the job as well as the Garmins, and as a geocacher too that's another aspect these do extremely well.

I have a Nexus 7 too, but I would hate to take it out walking. It's too large for a pocket or to hang from a clip, and far far far too flimsy. I dislike even using my phone as it's slippery and glares in the sun - although I suppose much of this could be resolved with a decent case.

I am on my fifth or possibly sixth Etrex. I have a 10 now (previously
had a 20 but stupidly lost it when out walking) and have had a bunch of
Legend HCX's over the years when they were good. The accuracy is great
on the newer 10/20/30 series (Glonass, etc.) but the small screens on
them are rubbish when compared to modern phone screens and entering
waypoints or panning the map using the rubber nubbin is terrible.

I never really think the more expensive Garmins are worth the money.
They seem to add £50 to the price with each generation. I don't suppose
they sell that many now everyone has a smartphone with a GPS.

The Etrexes are great on a bike but for walking I want something with
a bigger modern touchscreen (7 inch would be perfect for me). I fancy
one of these or something similar but can't afford it right now:
