My 10 year old plus Navman satnav has not been supported for a while now but it is adequate for the car only and still works well here and in France and Spain but it is showing it's age. Also we have a caravan which we drag around France and Spain every year for 6 weeks so I looked at satnavs which take into account the size of vehicle and what you're towing.

£300 plus seems to be the going rate for stuff like Garmin, Snooper, Tom Tom etc. with the fancy software, but I was very put off by the number of reviews which said that they were crap at the main objective, taking you on routes that are suitable for big vehicles. (My caravan has 3 minor repairs so far.) This took me into the world of HGV's (similar requirements) and into ebay where there are a lot of 7" display satnavs aimed at HGV drivers ranging from £50 to £100, mostly for the same or similar units. The price range is probably to do with the support provided and stuff like memory size.

I am very tempted to have a punt at one of these cheaper units. Has anyone any experience here?
