Paignton Lug meet 10th August

Posted on 2013-08-12 by Paul Sutton

Very good meeting Myself (Paul) and Dan Smith who dropped off 5 laptops for centre peace spent some time setting a few things up, removing unwanted packages and talking to matt,

We now have 5 laptops for the centre to use or more usefully for the lug to use at meetings for teaching / workshops etc,  so all we need now is more people to attend meetings.  shame that public transport and car parking in Torbay is a total rip off.

I also collected some posters from Dan and have started to put these up to promote software freedom day.

Meeting attended by:

Paul Sutton

Dan Smith

Mark Evans

Matt (IT manager at centrepeace)

Demand progress : Update

Posted on 2013-08-08 by Paul Sutton

This is the latest dispatch from Demand Progress

Friend,

What an idiot.

Former NSA and CIA director Gen. Michael Hayden just compared supporters of Edward Snowden to al-Qaida terrorists and dismissed us as “nihilists, anarchists, activists, Lulzsec, Anonymous, twenty-somethings who haven’t talked to the opposite sex in five or six years.”

Tell Michael Hayden that you — like millions of Americans who  care about their constitutional rights and believe whistleblowers serve a crucial role in our democracy — support Edward Snowden.

He even conflated hackers and activists who support Snowden with 9/11 hijackers, asking his audience, “Who are they going after? Who for them are the World Trade Centers? The World Trade Centers, as they were for al-Qaida.”

This kind of fearmongering is offensive and dangerous.

Please join us in condemning Hayden’s  idiotic comments and show your support for Snowden.

As the Washington Post’s Andrea Peterson points out, it is precisely those hackers who Hayden disparages that the government’s cyber-security apparatus depends on to help them identify vulnerabilities and defend against cyber attacks.

And to be clear, Hayden is the guy under whose watch the NSA began collecting Americans’ phone records and internet data without warrants after 9/11. He is obviously grossly out of touch with the perspective of the American people — whose privacy he condemned to be perpetually violated by the state’s watchful eyes.

Click here to call him out, demand an apology, and stand with Edward Snowden.

Thank you,

Demand Progress Team
