Proposal to develop a Fab Lab / Maker Lab in Exeter
Devon County Council is trying to establish if there is an interest in getting a Fab Lab or Maker Lab off the ground, possibly in Exeter Library (which as you know is currently closed for refurbishment, re-opening in April 2014).

What is a Fab Lab / Maker Lab?
A Fab Lab (= Fabrication Laboratory) is a low-cost digital workshop equipped with laser-cutters, routers, 3D scanners, 3D milling machines, and programming tools, where you can “make almost anything.” There are over 100 Fab Labs around the world, open to local inventors, small businesses, and garage entrepreneurs. The Fab Lab concept was created by Prof. Neil Gershenfeld and Bakhtiar Mikhak at MIT.
Proposal
To develop a digital fabrication facility (“Fab Lab”) in the refurbished Exeter Library to enable early-stage product prototyping and the ability to “make almost anything” for businesses, community users, artists and education, adopting the principles of the Fab Lab movement.

Interesting article esp the part about how the industry needs tax breaks and delays caused by the EU getting in the way of helping the industry.

At the Raspberry Pi jam on Saturdaqy 24th I was helping one of the younger visitors with some code from Raspberry Pi for dummies. I suggested looking on the dummies website for the source code to the programs in the book.
I have done this myself and the code is at the link below under downloads
example files.
On the pi you can right click and extract here or use the unzip command (I think) to extract the files from the command line.
