You have perfectly described the exact process I go through with the vast majority of home users who come to me for help. I mean, pretty much to the letter. It's most galling when they're return customers whom I've given perfectly setup machines to and said, "Right, just buy a £50 external USB drive from this link here, plug it in when it arrives and press ok on the dialogue box when it pops up and you'll be sorted from then on."
