He said she's been urged to take on the role of ICT specialist. I mentioned Moodle and Karoshi and he sounded interested. I'm going to setup Moodle on an old machine to give it a demonstration. I think one of the big issues is support. Supposedly the school pay for a technician from a local high school to come in once a week to fix things, but saying that, if they got to see the benefit of Open Source software just working then they might be more interested, especially if they can get good free/low cost support. Something similar is even mentioned in the March 2008 Linux Format magazine in a column by Richard Smedley about LUG members getting together and providing support. If a few of us could provide support through a support mailing list (maybe something more specific than the general LUG mailing list) the the support load could be spread out. Anyway, fingers crossed the demonstration of Moodle will make a good impression.
