just to add about the eeepc. I bought mine from RM, who seem to be the 
official dealers. It had an estimated delivery date of dec 7th, but 
actually arrived a few weeks before that - though yours probably won't 
arrive before xmas.

I have installed ubuntu on it. Very easy with an external CD drive. 
There is now an open source driver for the wifi, so ndiswrapper not 
needed. Also an eeeXubuntu has been put together. Supports the wifi as 
native, though downloading and building it is not difficult, and can be 
installed, as can ubuntu, from a usb stick.
