After you modprobe, check the end of the dmesg output that refers to the

Hi again,

Back on the laptop now(so apologies for any typoes :) ). I've pasted what I think is the relevant section of the dmesg output below (plus a few lines either side as I don't wanntto exclude aything in error). Words like "taints kernel" and overlapping addresses do not look healthy to me. Would I be right in my guess?

cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x24
hda: DMA interrupt recovery
hda: lost interrupt
mtrr: 0xf8000000,0x2000000 overlaps existing 0xf8000000,0x100000
cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
ath_hal: module license 'Proprietary' taints kernel.
ath_hal: 0.9.14.9 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, RF5111, RF5112, RF2413)
wlan: 0.8.4.5 (EXPERIMENTAL)
ath_rate_onoe: 1.0
ath_pci: 0.9.4.12 (EXPERIMENTAL)
mtrr: 0xf8000000,0x2000000 overlaps existing 0xf8000000,0x100000
hdc: lost interrupt

Kind regards,

Julian
