After you modprobe, check the end of the dmesg output that refers to the
module in question, as this can show module errors even if modprobe
succesfully loaded the module into the kernel.

Hi Alex,

Bit of progress (sort of). I've spoken to HP Tech Support and the short version is we have confirmed there is no hardware fault. I was wondering about that as it won't work in Windows 2000 or Mandrake. However it works fine in Windows XP Home *blech*;)

So I reloaded all the system, modprobedfor ath_pci and then checked dmesg. The below is what dmesg says:

ath_hal: module license 'Proprietary' taints kernel.
ath_hal: 0.9.14.9 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, RF5111, RF5112, RF2413)
wlan: 0.8.4.5 (EXPERIMENTAL)
ath_rate_onoe: 1.0
ath_pci: 0.9.4.12 (EXPERIMENTAL)

Is that "tainted" kernel comment going to be causing trouble?

Kind regards,

Julian
