Re: [LUG] System down...

Up in recovery mode.
Still an unhappy computer.

I begin to understand this.

Some things have to be on the partition which is the efi stub.

Copying those from /boot on the root drive gets me a bit further, and the machine now boots, and will go into maintenance mode.

I can do suff there as root

If I Ctrl D to go on from there, or if I accept the default boot line, it stops, with a black screen and a bit of activity light action on the system box.

This gets boring.

The menu options for boot I get continue to just be one kernel, the 3 version, despite an installation of a 4 kernel as well.

I may need to tell it to do something to the boot menu or even edit it myself, which seems unlike fun.

Anyone want to take money to fix it?

I have two directories called boot which have different sets of kernels in.
The wrong one is getting attention - the right one should be mounted on it, or by the as account in one of the references mounted on a subdirectory of it.

Other stuff to do for a bit, then I'll get back to it.

Complications to the arrangements for booting do seem to have crept in in recent years.

There are several Debian bug threads discussing missing ext4 after upgrade to Jessie. This sound familiar?

This looks more like the sort of hack you may need. As noted whilst grub might be wrong, grub was loading (some) initramfs, so it seems to know where to boot from, and is able to read the filesystem well enough unlike urm Linux....

Reminded of the good old days when you compiled in statically whatever was needed to boot. Of course it took the best part of a day to install Linux back then....
