That's about the size of it, yes. They help, but your kit is not
guaranteed safe. Lightning is measured in tens of kV, if not hundreds.
A piddly-assed suppressor circuit bought for less than a tenner isn't
going to cut it. Lightning ionises air over a ground to cloud distance
measured in high double digit feet, if not more. A couple of spark
arrestors are no match for that.
