I don't think a £100 phone is worth writing to my MP or the Vodafone CEO about at this moment. I'm not necessarily a big fan of my local MP, but he has more important things to deal with. Also, note that we're assuming all sorts of negative answers while I haven't even taken it to the shop yet.

My experience is that mentioning your legal rights, while playing on the company's good reputation ("I chose your company because of your good reputation and therefore am slightly disappointment with the way I was treated") works quite well.
