Should I back up ther current inbox?I checked the contents of some of the mboxes and find one or 2 open with gedit as normal - others start to display then I get the message "could not open .... could not detect the character encoding...."
I hope this does not imply corrupted files as this may mean I lose all the inbox and sent since the last backup (when I upgraded from 8.04 to 10.04).
To populate the in box with mail Import a Single file and poit it at Mail in .evolution

mine is /home/kevin/.evolution/mail
Do you mean /mail/local?
and all should be returned the only thing lost here is the Message filters The Address book is similar I make a new one called Old. Import the old one then Merge with Personal, the Default.
