I've been reading quite a bit lately, "Free Software, Free Society" by RMS and also "Free Culture" by Lawrence Lessig + stuff by Eben Moglen. I was thinking it would be good to share this stuff with my MP and initially I was just going to send him over a copy of the things I've been reading but then I was inspired by: http://www.ipaction.org/campaigns/ipod/ Although I don't plan to send iPods, I am putting together a DVD. The content for the DVD currently looks like: Music: Fading Ways label "Share" Albums The Wired CD from Wired Magazine Books/Literature: DaVinci Notebooks Grimm's Fairy Tales - Brothers Grimm Metamorphosis - Kafka Paradise Lost - Milton Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - Conan-Doyle The Art Of War - Sun Tzu The Complete Works of Shakespeare Ulysses - Joyce Free Software, Free Society - RMS Free Culture - Lawrence Lessig Free Software, Free Media - Eben Moglen European report in to the economic impact of FLOSS Movies: Mix Tape Building on the past The Dangers of software patents - an RMS talk Red Hat video from 2006 Indian Knowledge Symposium Trusted Computing - Lafkon Web For All - Firefox flick (still waiting to hear back about the licence) Who Owns Culture? - Lawrence Lessig Photos: Flickr Creative Commons - 100 or so The video bits will play if you put the disc in an ordinary DVD player while the other content is available if you put it in a computer. I've also set the DVD up so that it will run as a Linux LiveCD with all of that media available straight from the desktop. The guys who did the Trusted Computing movie, with its fantastic animation, are doing some artwork for it too! My plan was to send this disc of to my MP and also to people in Cabinet/trade and industries etc. I was also thinking various journalists and friends at universities. The Lafkon guys have asked for a few copies for Germany too! It's all working, just needs polishing. I currently plan on using a Knoppix live cd because it's so easy to make the modifications, but I think ideally I'd love to use the new Fedora live disc. I guess my overall plan with it is to raise awareness of the issues and all the fantastic stuff that has been created without DRM/restrictive licenses etc...I think it will need some sort of a cover letter too though, because a lot of the content is very American focused. Anyone know anything about the current state of the law regarding these issues in Britain/Europe? I've got no idea where to start with regard these issues! Hope you all find this interesting...any feed back is welcome! I thought it might be appropriate to this thread. I'll also be trying to find somewhere to host the iso image so that anyone can download a copy and share it.
