I know what I was thinking of here. It was something mentioned on the LTSP
web site/list some time ago about Ubuntu using the MueKow project to
implement LTSP in a different manner. It uses chroot to install packages
directly on to the LTSP linux image rather than building from the source
with LBE. Definitely much easier :-) A link about it is:

Definitely sounds interesting and worth investigating. Just need to get my
hands on some hardware now :-)
