Brilliant idea Alan and it works!!!  Thanks a million :)  OK I have a 
lot of folders to shift but at least I can do it now :)

Thanks also to NeilW and MarkE for your advice.  I will certainly look 
into using IMAP and fetchmail, but in the short term it's back to those 
blessed mboxes again! ;)
