I use Zigbee extensively, via zigbee2mqtt, mqtt and home assistant. (And then onto some other logging). 

This is for home automation - lots of temp/humidity sensors, lights, remote plugs etc. 

It works well, although the cheaper usb sticks are a bit hit and miss. 

I do monitor a dumb electric meter using a clamp-on CurrentCost, but that's via RF and serial connection and some scripting to get it into a database. 

Don't know if any of that is useful, but I would recomment z2m as a piece of software, the logging is very useful to see what's being received.

No, afraid not. I probably should know more, but never came up professionally.

I have a smart meter and a Chameleon Technology IHD3-PPMID type 1 meter, which
you are welcome to come and try and read the meter, but I guess they are all
over the place.
