APs only - I really, really don't want to be manoeuvred into having to use any of their switching or routing gear by them tactically withholding features unless you're using their stack. The Ubiquiti SDN controller will live in a docker container on an internal system to manage them although I'm not necessarily _completely_ opposed to the little Cloud key device controller if absolutely necessary. As long as it can be utterly segregated from the internet while retaining full internal functionality. For that reason I'm not touching the USGs under any circumstances. I'm looking at the full range of APs - I'm expecting to end up with a mix of 3-5 them initially. It's not like I live on a farm or anything, it's just a normal detached 2 up 2 down with a 60' back garden but I am intending to do this properly and once only. It's well insulated and wifi inside the house does suffer which is why I've run 10Gb ethernet to every single room and the bottom of the garden (shed+summerhouse - need internet there too!). Initially an upstairs AC Pro, a conservatory AC Lite and another AC Lite at the end of the garden should be fine but I'm thinking of the future and the staggering amount of bandwidth we use even now. Even if I've got 2x10Gb ethernet drops in every room and pervasive 2.4GHz wifi everywhere that's not going to cut it for long. I see a very near-future scenario where I put a 5GHz 802.11ac capable AP in literally every single room. This is basically a once in a lifetime chance approved by the purse-holder ("fix the damn wifi for god's sake!") that's taken months to even get this far: rewired most of the house, redecorated half of it after smashing holes in everything for cable drops, upgraded distribution board, the lot. There's a proper rack in the garage with the patch panel now waiting to be stuffed with expensive new gear and of all things I've ended up stalled on the lack of decent/objective/honest featureset comparisons of the major SOHO wifi resellers. To turn the question around, what Ubiquity gear do you have/experience with? Are you on the SDN controller and if so, which version/type? What features don't work?
