Well, that explains that then...
Handy sysadmin rule: NEVER EVER EVER SSH AS ROOT.
This rule is so important that the vast majority of sane *nix systems
automatically implement it for you out of the box, Linux included. Your
sshd_config that Ubuntu ships with by default blanket bans root SSH
logins, as it should. In this light, your SSH failure is entirely
expected behaviour.
ssh rich@xxxxxxxxxxxx
Is what you want, changing "rich" to whatever your username on Kabylake
is. That'll let you straight in, providing the SSH subsystem hasn't
automatically banned your secondary IP for too many failed login attempts.
