auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
address 192.168.1.3 # The static IP it has now
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1 #coincidentally the same
dns-nameservers 194.168.4.100 #Virginmedia's DNS primary server.

Sorry I mean mine should be something like:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.3 # The static IP it has now
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1 # Coincidentally the same
dns-nameservers 194.168.4.100 # Virginmedia's Primary DNS server.
