Can't hurt. Do it from a basic phone plugged directly into the "test
socket". Might get their attention more if you were quiet to them than
if they were quiet to you though ;) Also remember to tell them "It's
fine on 01803 DEFGHI". (Check if both lines are from the same cabinet.)

You could also, for comparison, try ringing 17070 then option 2 with
the same phone plugged into the test socket on both lines. If you can
hear some noise on the troublesome line when it should be quiet that
would also be something to get in touch with BT about.

If it turns out that the lines come from different cabinets and one
has always been much quieter than the other then BT are likely to just
say "tough".

Don't tell them you have a PBX connected to the lines. Also what
happens if you try to use a fax on the line in question?
