Unfortunatly not, but it can sometimes help with ADSL speed if that's
an issue. Though that's unlikely to be the case if an ADSL connection
can be dedicated to VoIP.

Yet for some reason Ofcom is unable to declare this "utterly daft!"

Even if they don't it might be less hassle getting a new line installed
for just the VoIP then port existing number(s) and cease existing
line(s). Especially as many VoIP providers appear to offer at least two
concurrent calls per number. (Possibly in such a case you might want to
automatically answer any incoming calls on the otherwise unused POTS
line just to cost phone spammers some time and money.)
