Perhaps that makes them bad spammers but you can use the same arguments and say that checking rDNS/SMTP syntax/RBL listings etc are useless for spam because good spammers do it right. Fact is a lot of them don't do it right. Also, an SPF pass doesn't mean the email isn't spam; rather, it says the from address in the SMTP envelope probably wasn't forged. If you know that address or domain to be a spammer's, you can (and should) still block it. It's a lot harder for spammers to use SPF with a domain that has, and keeps, a good reputation.
