Right, what happens if you:
Boot the system, immediately interrupt the 10 second installer countdown
On the menu, select the top default option and press tab to edit the options
Delete the "quiet splash --" entries at the end of the boot stanza
Replace it with "noacpi noapic nomodeset" instead
And hit return to boot
