All IPv4 addresses starting 127 are typically mapped to the loopback device. Client have an Windows machine where one program listens for mail (SMTP) on 127.0.0.1 and forwards it to another mail server listening on 127.0.0.2. I think some versions of NTPd use to do something with some other 127/8 addresses, but it is pretty unusual to do much with them. The others all IPv6 as the names imply. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loopback
ok it seems to be working, now, i had to miod my /etc/hosts file so posted a note to the answers site to suggest this, as it may be helpful to others. i guess its more applicable to those with wired or wireless printer setup rather than the printer being connected via usb,
anyway thanks for all the help paul -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
