Any experience out there?

No experience, but a thought that once you have the separate LAN you could block access to all the file-sharing websites you know of to limit access that way; also log user access, with a condition in your Acceptable Use Policy that you will provide the full log to the Police should they come knocking and give them contact details for the person renting the cottage at the time of the alleged illegal activity. Hopefully should the worst happen that would limit your personal responsibility, although of course I am not a lawyer so don't take that as Gospel. It just makes logical sense to me :)

looks like i have opened a can of worms here, also depends on what you see as illegal activity, so far we have mentioned downloading, what about child grooming, or other sex offences involving children, it could happen,

i didn't want to say this at the time, but I am sure many people here with kids have content filtering installed, again its being responsible, but at the end of the day you need to supervise your children's access to the net.

what you would be doing with your terms and conditions is reminding people of this so they don't blame you if someone downloads inappropriate content.

also on a +ve note data collected could be used in a prosecution and help the police, but given that ********* from torquay who has been given a pathetic 10 years apparently. its hardly seems worth it unless the offender is punished properly so they don't re-offend.

As I said its about covering you back.
