I have looked... If only I had the time and energy...

We've had a few Gentoo fans here, Neil S is the only one I can name who
hasn't moved away from D&C, but I'm sure there are plenty of others.

For the record I upgraded a live server to Debian Squeeze from Lenny
this afternoon whilst waiting for a bit of Qt to compile (I typed a nice
command to git and it told me it has 406,000 or so objects to get
zzzZZZZzzzZZZZ).

Indeed - I have upgraded 3 live (& very remote) servers so-far. All without a hitch.

Unlike Gordon I followed the upgrade instructions in the release notes
and made sure my kernel met the requirements ;)

Bah!

The issues were somewhat unexpected, however. My desktop simply doesn't need things like udev, dbus, bluetooth, etc. and it hugely irritates me when upgraded packages now depend on them when they didn't before.

I've now done a re-install from scratch - probably not needed (& I have the original drive). However it won't run X on my standard motherboard video hardware and it crashes (floating point violation) when trying to enable my 2nd video card (nv driver). So much for progress )-:

And it only downloaded a few 100MB to do the install too - not the 1.3GB for the upgrade. (However I've not installed OpenOffice yet - that's the one that will pull in cups, etc.)

Gordon
