They sent me a very nice challenge/response
calculator that needs a card & pin to operate... (Any Chip & Pin card it
seems, but I don't know if it somehow extract the cards details and uses

Right. I wasn't aware of that, but it makes ssense. So as long as I don't leave my card near the reader it ought to be fine...

They originally sent me a separate card to use with it - a nice red and purple one. The battery is now low, fortunately they sent me another when they converted my personal account too, and 2 more when my wife moved her account to NatWest and our joint account (talk about eggs in a basket )-:
