I suspect you would need to use losetup to give you another device a
certain offset into the disk.

Something like

losetup -o 32256 /dev/loop0 /dev/nbd0

( The number of heads (63) * sector size (512) = 32256  )

Then you should be able to mount /dev/loop0

I think you are quite right, so it's possible the NBD stuff isn't doing
quite the right concatenation and might not help you afterall.
