I'd say this might be the case for someone who has previously used Windows, but for someone who has never used a computer before (not even an old Amstrad CPC etc) I think it would be just as easy to learn anything.

The fact is too, I'll be supporting the laptop and I use Ubuntu so I'll be able to advise over the phone without actually looking at the machine.
