Re: Community and freedom : was Re: [LUG] Farseer enterprises
Hi
I saw a report that MS wants to target Britain in terms of illegal
software use.
Quick question. I know many computer shops that regularly load up w98
on machines and hand-out newly burnt cds of said distribution quite
freely. They all contain the same serial number or one of about five.
Is this legal? Have they bought a right to do this? Using Linux and the
'free' and 'freedom' argument counteracts this quite well.

Vendors need to be free to sell systems without ever buying a Windows
or other
MS licence for that machine. MS will do everything in their power to
prevent
exactly that. It's not law, it's stronger than that, it's profit.
