Nah there are lots of non-SQL databases, I use some occaisonally.

The issue here is how complex the environment is to build a simple
database application.

I've been playing glade/gnome/gnome-db/{Python|Perl|C|C++}

I'm guessing once you get the hang of it, this is a pretty good way
of replacing Access. But I haven't found a "HOW TO" that takes you
from "zero" to "productive", and you'll really want a distro with
"apt" or something similar.

I've just about got from "zero" to a full Gnome application -
although just as I was getting the hang of glade-perl I realised I
was on the old version of Glade. The lack of a Gnome "About"
dialogue box object was a dead give away....

Anyway I dare say I'd get there quicker if someone who does Gnome
applications shows me how.

I have some very basic Gnome questions - but perhaps a new thread
for those.
