As this is also bridged to IRC then that should cover both, we can see all messages.
As for reading messages on the list, it is hardly busy here as you know, at the best of times, in fact this is the busiest it has been for ages.
I am not sure who the 'Officers are' I know Alex C is the mailing list admin and Simon W maintains the website back end. I just try (badly) to add content now and then. I have put a note on the site re Matrix and the age policy.
