You can do this effectively with identities - So in Thunderbird, I have
my main email address as an identity of this gmail email address. This
address is registered on the LUG list and is the default for "Reply
List". I have then set this identity (via Manage Identities in Account
Settings) to be plain text composition, replying below the quoted text.

However, I think I may have cause the original issue on this thread.
because I had just done a fresh install of Ubuntu and Thunderbird and
got my identities confused so was sending HTML messages replying at the
top! Sorry.

We can put policy and tools in place, but there's sometimes no
accounting for idiots like me - In IT Helpdesk speak, it's PEBKAC
(Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair).

While I'm here, does the list not email you your own posts, or is it
some setting I have switched on? I probably double/triple posted over
the last few days because I wasn't sure if the email had made it to
everyone else...
