Sorry, I was being facetious as usual!

Well, for when you really, really _have_ to use a laptop with a crappy
or broken touchpad in the car (which is actually something that happens
for me a lot) the simplest solution is a flat bit of plywood the right
size and shape? About as deep as a laptop footprint and as many extra cm
wide to give you just enough room for either one of those teeny tiny
usb/wireless mice or a trackball I guess? You could even velcro a
trackball down.

I've got a bit of plywood here that I use for just that but around the
house - measuring it, it's 37x29cm. That's comfortable for any size
laptops but presuming yours is a 15" you'd want it to be a bit wider
than that to have enough space on the side. Maybe 50cm? Dunno how big
your car is but it might even slide under the front seats.

And yeah, older HP trackpads do often suck a lot to be fair. Does yours
really activate from 3" though? Holy crap!
