Re: [LUG] Debian USB Boot disk

I recommend Etcher as a good application for creating bootable USB's - very simple, very easy no nonsense application - https://etcher.io/

Meanwhile, when installing Debian, I recommend doing so with a wired attachment to the network if possible. Either way, Debian will simply tell you during the install process which Wifi drivers you need, and where to get them. This is because many drivers are considered 'non-free' by Debian, so they make them available for the asking, but not available by default if that makes sense.

Hi

When I install Ubuntu it gets drivers etc and adds Gnome or Unity. Does Debian do this please?

Thanks

Ok. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X201. The OS I am using is Ubuntu. I am particularly concerned having never used Debian though - will it pick up the wifi drivers, trackpad etc. Once installed what will I need to do to get it going? Does it use Gnome please?

Thanks

Rich

Oh thank god, a 'normal' uncomplicated question.

Let's not make the usual mistake of not having enough information:
depends on a couple of things, although the basic steps are pretty much
the same.

What OS are you using to make the USB drive in the first place?
What's the target platform? Debian obviously, but x64/x86/Arm?

Cheers
