Re: [LUG] Newton Abbot IT Job.

 

Hi Simon, Martin,

I guess my position on all this would be I'd prefer to know what
others in the company were earning before pitching a salary for
myself. The employer obviously has this information and I try to avoid
negotiations where the other party has key information I don't. In
some sectors (e.g. univerisities), this information (with some
non-trivial margin of error) is publicly available for everyone
earning less than about Â55k a year - you can derive it from the job
title and a few other pieces of information. 

Anyway, as I think is the thrust here, it's all about freedom. As both
employer and potential employee, we have the freedom to negotiate how
we wish (within the law), or to choose to walk away if we don't like
the terms.
