Alternatively, you could try sudo chmod a+rw /dev/bus/usb/002/008 and might then be able to continue as a normal user. If you want to do it permanently/properly, you'll probably need to tinker with the parts of the system that assign UID/GID on device creation (udev) and maybe also security components (pam, SELinux, etc).
