Re: [LUG] Yahoo spam article

So how would you two guys classify telneting port 25 and issuing EHLO
localhost?

Email client or not?

Great question. And I disagree with the other replies. Email is a standard. Software using that cannot be "email" - nor can an email itself, if you want to get /that/ pedantic.

Joe: "I received an email!"

Fred: "No, you received a collection of ascii characters comprising a message via the medium of email."

(Fred has no friends and lives at home with his mother and her cats, but is technically correct.)

By talking directly to port 25, the tools you are using (telnet, bash/putty) have, temporarily, become an email client. You yourself would be the logic behind that client, entering commands manually, so technically, you have become an email client too. The matrix accepts you and you vanish without trace.
