You could be right there. My smart phone does not work with my router (a known problem) so I have a TPlink wireless access point linked to the router. My phone works with that, whereas the laptops (mine, the wife's and the daughter's) automatically link to the Netgear router. If this is causing a problem, well, it has not happened before. On 15/06/13 18:19, Neil Winchurst wrote:Just had a go at an install. Got as far as it wanting details for the wan, carefully gave it the SSID, and the password for the WPA2 security and it couldn't find it. It actually asked for the ESSID, is that the same? NeilFor all practical purposes, they are the same thing (technically however they are definitely NOT the same). You haven't got some kind of funky wifi setup there have you: like multiple access points or wifi repeaters or something? Because it really should Just Work (tm) straight out of the box. You really seem to have a knack for finding these little corner cases where stuff doesn't quite work as expected: I should really hire you as a bug tester, you're a natural :] Cheers
I could install using a cable link to the router and mess around with the wifi afterwards. But that is exactly what I did when installing Debian the first time, and I am still trying to sort out the wifi.
Incidentally, that is what I did with all the laptops when setting them up with Xubuntu (I mean that I linked them to the router to install and let them find the wifi afterwards). I had no problems with that.
