So you have given me the iso file for a minimal installation of Debian

Oh, and the ISOs are standard netinst media, so not minimal at all. They
have enough data on them to bootstrap your machine, set up your network
connection (which is where you've run into problems) and then pull
whatever installation options you want directly from the repo mirrors.
You can choose everything from ultra-minimalist to probably installing
every single one of the 20k+ available packages.

Netinst should always be your preferred method of installation, unless
you have a severely restricted data cap or very slow internet
connection. Nice fresh packages straight from the updated repos, lovely.

Cheers

Many thanks, in future I will always look for the netinst method. When I first looked at the Debian site I was a bit overwhelmed. So many choices.
