Re: [LUG] disclaimer text

Simon, just out of interest, what part of Romania ?
Best thing I like is the cheap beer, coffee and widespread WiFi when in a large town.

I don't think Twitter and Facebook and those cases is a good model to

I do think that a set of instructions on a site that random people can
wander into is reasonable, some of it shades into the description of
what the G/LUG is for, and some of it is what it is not for.

It can be tucked into the FAQ, placed on a page of its own and linked
to in footers, or put at the bottom of the front page - a valuable
area of virtual space for which this is a less good use.

what is the legal position of the LUG anyhow? Is it actually a suable entity? Or is it the individual who pays for hosting. Come to that who does pay for hosting? And if it is a legal entity who would stand in court and defend it and where would you apply for the vast damages that would be awarded for mis-typing a command line command? Will everyone subscribed to the list have their earnings attached (detached :-)) if incorrect advice is given?

I may of course be mistaken, but it looks to me as though the only qualification for becoming part of the LUG is to sign up to the email list, although maybe the website moderator is responsible? I am a "member" of the local camera "club" and have never signed any damage waiver or in fact done anything other than turn up, who do I sue if I break my camera or ruin my boots from getting stuck in mud while photographing our wonderful local scenery? Is it the guy who suggested photo rambles and sharing photographic advice might be a neat idea, or each individual who has ever taken part?

So maybe individuals who feel that stuff they contribute might result in their being sued for damages or think the weight of our morally bankrupt legal system (try living and working in one of the recent EU accession states if you want to truly experience this rather than just making yourself feel good by ranting) will descend on them should add their own disclaimers to their own works?

These opinions may of course be be incorrect and I cannot be held responsible for them or any damage resulting in acting upon them (like moving to Romania and being bankrupted by nepotism, kleptocracy and bribery - this is of course not to imply that the Romanian state or any individual within it acts in any immoral or illegal way).
