An update 

Win7 installed 
Ran the fedora disk ( and a Mint and Ubuntu ) 

adjust boot args to 
remove rhgb 
add noacpi noapci nomodtest (even) xforcevesa 3

All give no display on the gx460 even in level 3

Take it out an all is fine,
but as it's staying in...
 Linux is not getting installed 

NB the card is an Factory Overclocked version which may be causing the
trouble.



Thanks for the help though.... again I've learn t a lot about the boot
process in Linux
