Well that was a lot of information.
Here is the out put from cat /proc/asound/cards

and the relevant lines from lsusb
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 046d:081b Logitech, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
So the webcam microphone is found. I am wondering if it is muted
somewhere. Perhaps it could be that simple if I could find where!!
